Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) Chosen to be CA Assembly Speaker
On February 28, the California Assembly chose Karen Bass (D-Los
Angeles) as its Speaker. She is the first African-American woman to
lead a legislative chamber in any state. Essentially she is also the first
woman to head the Assembly (Republican Doris Allen held the
