Vision
The Women Officials Network envisions more women in leadership positions at all levels of government.
Mission
The Women Officials Network empowers the leaders of today and mentors women leaders of tomorrow.
History
The Women Officials Network, a non-profit and non-partisan organization, was founded in 1997 by then State Rep. Patricia (Pan) Godchaux (R-Birmingham) and her district liaison, Barbara Moorhouse. WON quarterly breakfasts feature dynamic speakers and provide great networking opportunities. The group has hosted a wide array of speakers on a range of topics. Past programs have included the women on the State Supreme Court, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a panel of local judges relating their experiences on the bench, and other women of power and influence. In 2000, 2002 and 2004 WON offered two workshops to encourage women to run for office: "Me? Run for Office???"; and "The Nuts and Bolts of Running for Public Office." WON partnered with the League of Women Voters-Oakland Area and other local women's organizations in these endeavors. Since then WON has worked with the Michigan Women's Commission, The White House Project and other state women's organizations to offer similar opportunities.
