History
The Women Officials' Network, a non-profit and non-partisan organization, was
founded in 1997 by then  State Rep. Patricia (Pan) Godchaux (R-Birmingham)
and her district liaison, Barbara Moorhouse.  WON's main activity has been its
four quarterly breakfasts, which give women public officials an opportunity to
meet and network with their peers on other kinds of boards and commissions.
The group has hosted a wide array of speakers on a wide range of topics.  Past
programs have included the three women on the State Supreme Court,
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a panel of three
local judges relating their experiences on the bench, and numerous women
who head non-profit organizations in Oakland County that work with women
and/or children.
In 2000, WON started offering two workshops biennially to encourage women
to run for office:  "Me?  Run for Office???" and "Money, Organization, and Media:
The Nuts & Bolts of Running for Public Office."  WON has worked with the
League of Women Voters-Oakland Area and other local women's organizations
in these endeavors.  Last year, WON joined with the Michigan Women's
Commission and many other state women's groups to produce three similar
workshops, "Run, Girl, Run!" in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Farmington Hills.  In
2008 we again worked locally to put on our campaign-training programs.
